Homemade Silver Tarnish Remover
Submitted by Rose Marie
Nellwyn asked for help in cleaning silver with foil:
This tip is for getting rid of tarnish in any kind of silver, jewelry,
silverware, etc. I learned this from chemistry class in high school.
Dissolve some salt in some hot water, put a piece of aluminum foil in
the salt water and put your silver in it. In just a few moments, the
tarnish is gone! Bigger pieces of silverware will need a longer
period of time, but this always works and does not damage the silver.
Homemade Tarnish Remover:
Put foil in the bottom of a bowl or dish. Add 2 Tbs baking soda
and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Put your jewelry/silver on top of the mixture.
Add boiling water to cover, wait about 2 minutes. You will be amazed
at the results! The foil and baking soda create a chemical reaction that
removes tarnish!
Also, 3 heaping Tlbs. baking soda, piece of aluminum foil, crumpled up,
pan with boiling water and leave a few minutes.
I hope this helps.

Here is a formula using tin foil and water softener
Run about a quart of hot water into your kitchen sink
(not so hot as to burn you though)
Dissolve 1 Tlbs. Laundry Water Softener and 1 Tlbs.
salt in the water. Place a sheet of aluminum foil on
the bottom of the sink and place your tarnished silver
on the foil.(shiny side up) The silver that's both
touching the foil and covered by the water should
become clean within 10 seconds.

The next time you boil potatoes, cool the leftover
potatoe water and dip your tarnished silverware into
it.

Cleaning Silver with Foil and Vinegar
Submitted by Joanne
Line a porcelain sink with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Add the silver you want to polish, making certain that every piece touches the foil. Cover all with boiling water and add a cup of baking soda. The tarnish will transfer from the silver to the foil in almost no time. Make a paste of water and baking soda to polish any remaining tarnish.
