Ideas for Your Craft Shows

Ideas sent in by Christine
Handmade items that sell well at craft shows:
Jewellery, painted items, specialty food items, seasonal items, baked goods, sewn items, knitted items, soap, candles, stained glass, baby clothing, pet treats, teddy bears, picture frames, pre-made scrapbook pages - whatever your specialty is!

Craft show tips:

1. How you display your items is really, really important. There are many tables/booths at a craft sale, and you need to make yours as eye-catching as possible. Too much clutter/disorganization is confusing to the eye; organize and practice your set-up at home beforehand.

2. Set-up and take-down: It is really hard after a long day, to haul everything back out to your car piece by piece (especially if you are at the craft show by yourself!). Try to plan ahead and think of the most efficient way for you pack your materials in and out of the venue.

3. Important things to have on hand for the day of the craft sale; business cards, extra change, packaging material or bags, price stickers, calculator, scissors, tape, pens and most importantly - comfortable shoes!!!

4. Be interested in what is happening around you. When customers stop to browse your booth, acknowledge them and offer as much assitance as possible (without being too pushy!). Make friends with fellow vendors and offer a small sample of your goods (if possible!) - fellow vendors can sometimes be your best referrals!

5. Make sure you offer a range of items with a range of prices ($5 and under items sell the best for me). Depending on your geographical area, most people are not looking to spend big money at a craft sale, but are usually looking for little gift ideas for themselves or others.
