Recently a reader asked for ideas on more homemade facials. Here are the great replies we received...Enjoy. :) Your skin will thank you!

Facials from Your Pantry

Submitted by Beth

Here are a few ideas for facial masks that you probably already have in your kitchen: The first one is plain yogurt. After cleansing your face, apply plain yogurt to your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse. It's good for all skin types, and helps even out skin tone.

The second ingredient is oatmeal. Grind rolled oats in a coffee or spice grinder and sift. Add milk, honey, or distilled water to the oats to make a cream consistency and follow the directions for the yogurt mask. Oatmeal is good for many kinds of skin conditions and is very soothing. The third idea is honey. Just apply honey to the skin and follow the basic directions. You might also tap your face gently with your fingertips for a few minutes to stimulate blood circulation. Honey is healing and soothing, as well, and good for all skin types, but great for acne. Ground oatmeal is wonderful for a facial scrub, as well. Grind the oats and add your liquid of choice.

Banana, Honey & Sour Cream
Mash 1/2 banana, add 1 tablespoon honey and 2 tablespoons sour cream. Apply to face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Gently wipe off with a damp wash cloth.

Almonds & Berries
In a food processor or blender, combine 1/2 cucumber, 1 tablespoon yogurt, a few strawberries, and 1 teaspoon honey. Apply to face and leave it on until it dries. Gently wipe off with a damp wash cloth.

Cornmeal
Mix two tablespoons of cornmeal mixed with a bit of water to make a thick paste. Apply to face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Gently wipe off with a damp wash cloth.

Apricots & Cream

Cucumber & Yogurt

Sugar Face Scrub

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil

Directions:
Mix ingredients together until completely blended. Apply to face and lightly scrub for about 5 minutes, rinse off with warm water. Clears pores of dirt and oil. Should be applied in the morning.

Face & Body Scrub

Mix together the following ingredients:
1/4 cup honey
3 tablespoons unsweetened powdered cocoa
2 tablespoons almond or olive oil
1/8 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup brown sugar

Apply to face and body. Scrub gently for a minute or so on your face, more on the dry areas of your body. Rinse with warm water. Follow up with your favorite lotion.

Milk
Wash your face with milk, which is a source of lactic acid, a natural exfoliant. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week helps remove dead skin cells to reveal healthy skin underneath. Simply pour milk into your hands and splash it onto your face using circular movements. Alternatively, you can soak a muslin face cloth with milk and scrub gently. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Another Mask
To help brighten up your skin, create a mask using the juice of half of a lemon and one beaten egg white. Apply the mixture to your face and let dry for about 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Avocado Oil
Avocado Oil makes for a great face and eye makeup remover. Rich in Essential Fatty Acids, avocado oil softens and gently lifts away any debris from your skin. Pat your face with a tissue to remove any excess oil.
