CLEANING AN AERATOR
Diann writes:
"For the aerator put straight vinegar in a small zipper plastic bag and tape it on the faucet overnight so that the aerator is submerged in the vinegar. This may loosen some of the mineral grit so that you can get the aerator off."
Shirley recommends:
"I would try vinegar to remove the faucet aerator. Place a small plastic bag over the area and attach it to the faucet with a strong rubber band. Fill it with vinegar and leave it at least overnight. Hope this helps, works well on shower heads."
Patty says:
"If it is truely stuck, you might have a lime or calcification issue. fill a baggie with white vinegar and tye it on over the aerator. Make sure the entire aerator and connection to faucet are totally submerged. Leave on overnight and try again. This may actually takie several tries if the thing has been on for over 3 years.
Another question is are you sure the thing is not cross threaded (Installed crooked where threads do not properly match)?
If cross threaded, the faucet may have to be replaced."

~~~RECIPE REQUESTS: ~~~
Please help these readers find these recipes! :) Thanks for your help everyone...
CHOCOLATE VELVET CAKE MIX
Beth S. asks:
"In the December, 2003 issue of Southern Living magazine there was a recipe for Chocolate Velvet Cake Mix. With that mix you could make 12 different cakes. I still have the magazine and the recipes,but the recipe for the chocolate velvet cake mix is missing. The cake was delicious and I would like to try it again. Does anyone have the recipe for the mix(batter?)"
HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING MIX
Betty asks:
"I am looking for a recipe for homemade dry taco seasoning that is used
when cooking the ground meat."
STRAWBERRY RHUBARB UPSIDE DOWN CAKE
Karen asks:
"I also am searching for a recipe from the 60's -- it was a summer cooking school for girls from the county extension offices. They gave us a 8x10 cookbook of recipes that we learned to cook that summer. One I am looking for is a Strawberry Rhubarb Upside Down cake. It is not made with a cake mix, like what I find in searching on the internet. You put brown sugar, strawberrys, rhubarb in the bottom of square cake pan and poured a batter over you made. When it was done the cake was very rich, it was brown not yellow. sort of reminds you of another cake called mystry pudding that is made with fruitcocktail in almost the same way and which by the way I cant locate that recipe either.
Any help on that would be appreciated."
CORNMEAL COOKIES FROM THE 60s
Here are a few variations found by our readers & recipe researchers...
Version 1 - Cornmeal Cookies
From Karen
"Terry, you are in luck, I collect recipes and have many from early 60's, the one you are wanting is still on the corn meal bag, I cut them off and save everything."
3/4 cup fat (margarine or butter)
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup raisins, if you like
Mix fat and sugar in a large bowl. Add egg and beat well.
Add rest of ingredients and mix well.
Drop dough from a teaspoon on a greased baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (moderate oven) about 15 minutes untill
lightly browned.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies
Chocolate Cornmeal Cookies
Use recipe for Cornmeal Cookies. Mix 1/4 cup cocoa
into cookie dough with rest of dry ingredients. Add 1/4
cup fluid milk.
Cornmeal Cookies - Version 2
From Cindy
" This recipe is for Terri who was requesting the recipe for Cornmeal Cookies. I have a Cooperative Extention Cookbook from the 60's that my mother gave me many years ago. I have made many recipes from it, but have never tried the cornmeal cookie recipe. I hope this is the one you are looking for. "
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream well. Beat in egg until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Sift remaining ingredients together and add to the creamed mixture; mix thoroughly. Shape dough into rolls and chill in refrigerato 2 hours or overnight. Cut cookies off roll and bake at 400° for about 6 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Do not overcook.
The recipe doesn't say how many it makes.
Drunken Pot Roast Recipe
Submitted by Christi
1 pot roast -- your choice of cut
1 bottle beer
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix
This is the easiest, best pot roast. Absolutely falls apart! Place pot
roast (your choice of cut and size) into your Crockpot. Put garlic on
top and sprinkle onion soup mix over all. Pour bottle of beer over top
and turn the Crockpot on low. Let cook for 10-12 hours. When done,
this roast will fall apart, so be careful when removing from the crock.
Serve this roast with mashed potatoes and green beans or whatever
strikes your fancy. This also makes an excellent "pot roast omelet" for
breakfast the next morning!
dish. Top with frozen yogurt and caramelized pineapple chunks.Per
