One reader wrote: "My neighbor said he saw on DIY network about restoring old paint brushes by soaking and using the microwave. It's supposed to bring them back like new. He can't remember the instructions how to do it. Have you heard of this method using the microwave??????" READER'S IDEA: Making Mega Ice Cubes Pat sent in this great idea for making huge ice cubes (especially good for punch bowls, I would think): "My best household hint is if you need some really long lasting ice cubes for punch,ice tea etc fill your muffin tins with water and freeze they make great large ice cubes that last a long time." READER'S IDEA: Fantastic Carpet Cleaning Tips from a Pro Big thanks to Carla for this amazing email! "Hi Christina, I've been a subscriber for a couple of years now. As an owner of a carpet cleaning company, I would like to say a couple of things about your article. 1) When cleaning up after a pet, you really need to apply an enzyme treatment to neutralize the spot. Otherwise, the pet will continue to urinate in that area. 2) When cleaning up a spill, PLEASE don't apply anything other than water or diluted vinegar. Blot the spot with a damp white rag. Repeat until spot is dry. Reason: If you apply a chemical to a spot or stain, 9 times out of 10, you will set the spot and then be upset when a professional technician can't remove it. Diluted vinegar is great to clean with. Again, make sure you get the carpet as dry as possible because it WILL mildew if left wet. Just my 2 cents worth of 18 years of experience in the industry.
