Original Hershey's Fudge Recipe

Hershey's Fudge

In large mixing bowl, cream :
1 stick of butter
1 tsp. vanilla.

In a large (at least 3 quart -- 4 is better) pan,combine the following:
3 c. granulated sugar
3 Tblsp Hershey's Cocoa
pinch salt
1-1/2 c. milk

Stir constantly over low to medium heat until mixture comes to boil. At that point, do not stir again. Cook to softball stage (232 F). Add to the butter mixture, and beat at med/high speed for at least 5 minutes, or until mixture begins to lose it's gossy-ness. Immediately turn into a well buttered 8 or 9" square pan. Allow to cool completely before cutting. If you like, you can add 1/2 c chopped nuts just before turning the fudge into the pan.
